What is diploma equivalence?
Through diploma equivalence, you can have a foreign diploma recognized in Belgium. This way, you will know the level of education your foreign diploma corresponds to in Belgium.

You can choose between recognition by the Flemish Community or the French-speaking Community.

• Flemish Community: Submit your application online through NARIC-Vlaanderen. You can choose between a recognition by level (e.g., master’s) or a specific recognition (e.g., master’s in biology).
• French-speaking Community: More information on equivalence can be found on the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles website at www.mijndiploma.be.

Is diploma equivalence required to enter higher education?
No, it is not necessarily required. The university or higher education institution decides whether you can enroll in a particular program. The equivalence procedure applicable to your situation depends on several factors. Do you want to work in Wallonia, Brussels, or Flanders? Are you from the European Union or outside of it? Was your diploma issued within the European Union or in another country? These are all factors that will influence the order of your equivalence procedure.
