Guidance for Newcomers
Guidance for Non-Native Newcomers:
Have you just moved to Belgium?
Sahli Translation & Mediation focuses on guiding newcomers in their new home country, Belgium, by assisting with integration, administration, well-being, and practical questions.
Newcomers often face numerous challenges: finding housing, furnishing their homes, applying for temporary benefits, subsidies, finding a general practitioner or dentist, enrolling their children in school, obtaining insurance, and more. All of this can be quite overwhelming, especially for someone unfamiliar with the system, not fluent in the language, and with few contacts.
We provide explanations, contact institutions, and accompany individuals if necessary. We introduce newcomers to various procedures, their rights and obligations, and assist them along the way.
Mainly Practical Support
Our assistance mainly consists of practical support, such as:
- Applying for benefits.
- Requesting social housing.
- Filing tax returns.
- Obtaining diploma equivalence.
- Creating a CV.
- Registering with a municipality.
- Applying for the growth package.
- Requesting care allowances.
- Applying for rental subsidies.
- And much more.
Consultations:
Support for newcomers is provided through consultation hours at our office in Antwerp. During these sessions, we agree on what we can and cannot do.
Appointments:
Sahli Translation & Mediation reserves several times during weekdays for appointments, where newcomers can address their questions. We help with filling out forms for things like rental subsidies, childcare, education, housing, etc. We also explain how other procedures work or direct individuals to the appropriate services. Additionally, we assist with writing letters, drafting appeals, contacting institutions by phone, or making appointments.
To give a clearer picture of the types of cases we support, here are some non-exhaustive examples:
- Registering a rental contract.
- Orientation advice.
- Filing tax returns.
- Studying in Belgium.
- Registering as a newcomer.
- Completing forms.
- Applying for rental subsidies.
- Applying for care allowances.
Consultations are held by appointment only, via our contact information.
