Revision

Revision

Revision involves critically reviewing a translation for potential errors and thoroughly comparing it with the source text. Revision is a quality control process and goes beyond simple correction. While a proofreader fixes writing and grammatical errors, a reviser also assesses the quality of the translation and checks aspects such as:

  • Terminology
  • Consistency
  • Logic
  • Language register
  • The information needs of the target audience
  • Alignment of the translation with the source text

Revision ensures the quality of the translation: two sets of eyes are simply better than one, and a reviser with a fresh perspective can eliminate any mistakes or inconsistencies in the text. A reviser should be a native speaker with a translation background. They must possess near-native proficiency in the foreign language and be trained in text revision.
